Stewards for the Licking River Greenway

The Covington Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to serve as habitat restoration Stewards for the Licking River Greenway Initiative. Stewards will receive training from the NKU Center for Applied Ecology which will occur on Saturday September 25, 9am-12pm. This training will teach Stewards how to properly identify and remove species, chemical and tool safety and other useful information. Stewards will then be asked to assist on larger volunteer days by being Team Leaders and supervising a group of 1-day volunteers. Fabrication/Production Internship

Youth excepted into the volunteer program typically stay for 3 or more years. 1 to 15 youth are present on the museum floor daily during the summer months. • General office work related to youth training, including using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Public Relations Department in the following ways: Developing and implementing media opportunities and interviews for Cincinnati Museum Center’s exhibits, films, museums and attractions. Follow through with other departments to identify goals and objectives in order to develop strategic marketing plans to accomplish them. Learn ways in which a public relations department creates and executes plans as well as cultivates relationships to obtain positive media coverage for all aspects of the institution. *Leisure/Recreational Services: As a Recreation Assistant, you serve as a sighted guide for a consumer with a visual impairment on outings and activities help in other ways that enable the consumer to more fully participate in the activity/community. All volunteers receive a monthly calendar of activities and contact the recreational specialist to register for an activity. These activities could include: crafts, dancing, drama, exercise, music, tandem biking, etc. You are also responsible for bringing consumers from main building to the Procter Center. *One-to-One: As a “Friendly Visitor”, you build a one-to-one relationship with a consumer who is visually impaired. It includes companionship, recreational activities and development of a trusting relationship. *Personal Reading: As a Personal Reader, you assist the consumer who is visually impaired with printed materials such as reading mail, writing letters and or labeling household items. This can be done in-person or over the phone. *Proofreading: As a Copyholder working in the Transcription Department, you literally help thousands of people by assisting in the production of Braille materials by reading printed materials with an employee who is visually impaired. The employee works as a proofreader who is reading the Braille copy. Log errors that are identified. NO knowledge of Braille is necessary. *Personal Assistance: As a Personal Assistant, help the consumer who is visually impaired with shopping for groceries, clothes and other household items. (This position could involve transportation assistance. Therefore, a driving background check, a minimum of 21 years and proof of insurance is typically required.) *Transportation: Drive consumers with visual impairments to doctor appointments, food/clothes shopping, leisure outings, airport runs and a variety of other trips. (A driving background check, a minimum of 21 years and proof of insurance is required. *Youth Services: As a Youth Development Assistant, serve as a sighted guide for a young consumer with a visual impairment (typically between the ages of 8-22 years old) on outings and activities so as to enable the consumer to more fully participate in the activity. Youth Services and activities are seasonal and take place during the week and weekends. Youth Services also include the annual summer Discovery Day Camps that typically run from June to July. The camps allow youth with vision impairments to explore aspects important to their lives such as; independence, creativity, technology and socialization. Types of camps include: Art Camp, Survivor Camp, Adventures in Activities of Daily Living and Technology Camp. *Administrative/Clerical Assistance: Activities include but are not limited to filing, data entry, office organization, phone surveys, labeling, copying, collating and preparing mailings. Foster Homes

We receive an endless number of requests for intake & are extremely limited on the space & resources to handle them all. We currently house a few cats/kittens at the Florence Petsmart, but the remainder are housed in our own homes. KY Tails provides all medical care for these animals, including testing for FIV/FELV, vaccinations, etc. before being placed into a foster home.
