Long-term Volunteer Opportunities

*Leisure/Recreational Services: As a Recreation Assistant, you serve as a sighted guide for a consumer with a visual impairment on outings and activities help in other ways that enable the consumer to more fully participate in the activity/community. All volunteers receive a monthly calendar of activities and contact the recreational specialist to register for an activity. These activities could include: crafts, dancing, drama, exercise, music, tandem biking, etc. You are also responsible for bringing consumers from main building to the Procter Center. *One-to-One: As a “Friendly Visitor”, you build a one-to-one relationship with a consumer who is visually impaired. It includes companionship, recreational activities and development of a trusting relationship. *Personal Reading: As a Personal Reader, you assist the consumer who is visually impaired with printed materials such as reading mail, writing letters and or labeling household items. This can be done in-person or over the phone. *Proofreading: As a Copyholder working in the Transcription Department, you literally help thousands of people by assisting in the production of Braille materials by reading printed materials with an employee who is visually impaired. The employee works as a proofreader who is reading the Braille copy. Log errors that are identified. NO knowledge of Braille is necessary. *Personal Assistance: As a Personal Assistant, help the consumer who is visually impaired with shopping for groceries, clothes and other household items. (This position could involve transportation assistance. Therefore, a driving background check, a minimum of 21 years and proof of insurance is typically required.) *Transportation: Drive consumers with visual impairments to doctor appointments, food/clothes shopping, leisure outings, airport runs and a variety of other trips. (A driving background check, a minimum of 21 years and proof of insurance is required. *Youth Services: As a Youth Development Assistant, serve as a sighted guide for a young consumer with a visual impairment (typically between the ages of 8-22 years old) on outings and activities so as to enable the consumer to more fully participate in the activity. Youth Services and activities are seasonal and take place during the week and weekends. Youth Services also include the annual summer Discovery Day Camps that typically run from June to July. The camps allow youth with vision impairments to explore aspects important to their lives such as; independence, creativity, technology and socialization. Types of camps include: Art Camp, Survivor Camp, Adventures in Activities of Daily Living and Technology Camp. *Administrative/Clerical Assistance: Activities include but are not limited to filing, data entry, office organization, phone surveys, labeling, copying, collating and preparing mailings. Typically involves a regularly scheduled time weekly or bi-weekly. *Develop Your Own Volunteer Role: Clovernook encourages volunteers with special skills/interests to develop those into new volunteer roles. The purpose of the board is to plan and implement a special project that is determined and assigned by Clovernook's Board of Trustees. The board meets quarterly. We would also like one member from this board to also serve on our Signature Event Committee. The 2010 Cincy Blues Fest needs your help! It's time to call on our loyal and dedicated volunteers... and new friends. We need your help, it can't be done without YOU! The Blues Fest is produced solely by volunteers. Each year, nearly 400 area volunteers make this event possible. Volunteering to work at the Cincy Blues Festival is an excellent opportunity to meet new friends, reacquaint yourself with old friends, and show attendees some good old-fashioned Cincinnati-style hospitality! For many of our volunteers, the Cincy Blues Festival has become a yearly labor of love. Opportunities include site set up, merchandise and membership sales, parking attendants, beverage booths, audience surveys, volunteer sign-in, and site tear down. Mentoring in Covington (community based)

Reach out. Become a mentor to a Covington youth. The Community based mentoring program is offered at Holmes Middle School. Adult volunteers are matched with middle school students (6th-8th grade). Adults meet with students once a week after school, in the evening, or on the weekends for an hour. Mentors listen, support, befriend, and encourage local youth. A one year commitment is required. Background checks are required of all volunteers. One-on-one training is provided with a program coordinator before volunteers start to meet with students. On-site program coordinators are available for on going support.
